Editorial Guidelines
How we research, write, check and update everything published on this site — and what we will not do, however good it would be for traffic.

Who writes this site
Every guide on FlyJanuary.org is written by consultants who arrange January departures for a living. We do not commission generic travel content from writers who have not done the work. You can see the desks responsible on our team page.
What we check before publishing
A guide only goes live once the factual claims in it have been checked against a primary source. The sources we use most are:
- FCDO Travel Advice — Entry requirements and safety guidance
- IATA Travel Centre — Airline-grade passport and visa rules
- UK Civil Aviation Authority — Passenger rights and ATOL guidance
- Met Office — Climate normals and forecasts
Climate figures
Temperatures published on this site are typical January monthly averages drawn from long-run climate normals, not forecasts. We say so wherever they appear. An average tells you what to pack; it does not tell you what your specific fortnight will do.
Fares and prices
Every price is an indicative example based on fares observed on recent January departures, and is labelled as such. We never present an indicative fare as a quotation or a guaranteed price. Live pricing depends on your departure airport, exact dates and availability.
Entry requirements
Visa, passport-validity and transit rules are checked against the FCDO and the IATA Travel Centre at the time of writing, and we tell readers to verify their own position because rules change without notice and differ by nationality.
What we will not publish
- Invented statistics. If we cannot evidence a number, it does not go on the page.
- Fake reviews or testimonials. Every quotation must come from a real, contactable customer.
- Accreditations we do not hold. We will not imply ATOL, ABTA or IATA membership, or any partnership, affiliation or endorsement that does not exist.
- Airline logos or branding that would suggest a commercial relationship we do not have. Where we name carriers, it is because we compare their published fares.
- AI-generated filler. Nothing is published that a specialist has not reviewed and is willing to put their desk's name to.
Commercial relationships and independence
We are an independent agency. No airline or tour operator owns us. We may earn commission from suppliers on bookings, and we quote our consultation fee up front in writing before doing chargeable work — the detail is in our terms of service.
Commercial arrangements never determine editorial rankings. A destination appears in a guide because it genuinely suits January, not because it pays better. If that ever changes, this page changes with it.
Updates and corrections
Travel information decays quickly. Guides carry a published date and, where they have been revised, an updated date. We review the fare-cycle and entry-requirement pages at least once per season.
If you find something inaccurate or out of date, tell us at hello@flyjanuaryorg.com. We correct genuine errors promptly and update the revision date rather than quietly editing the page.
Reader-first test
Before anything is published we ask one question: would a traveller be better off having read this, even if they then booked elsewhere? If the answer is no, it does not go up.
